Tips goalie Simpson drafted by Blackhawks in NHL Draft |
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
Silvertips goalie Kent Simpson is heading to the champs.
The Everett star was chosen by the Stanley Cup Champions, the Chicago Blackhawks, in the second round of the NHL Draft on Saturday. Simpson is the second Western Hockey League goalie taken in the draft and the third goalie taken overall. Mark Visentin of the Ontario Hockey League’s Niagara IceDogs was taken by Phoenix in the first round, while Seattle’s Calvin Pickard was chosen by Colorado in the second round.
Simpson was among the top goaltending prospects in the draft this year. He was expected to go in the first couple of rounds in the draft.
It's the third straight year that the Blackhawks have taken a Silvertips player in the NHL Draft, as they chose Byron Froese in the fourth round last year and Kyle Beach in the first round in 2008.
